Lamarr Avenue Church

CFCPD has played a key role in the acquisition of Lamarr Avenue Historic Church in Central Tampa which is currently being restored. Once the restoration is completed it will be used as a Community Center, home of Tampa Heights Junior and home of the Senior Civic Association.

The Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association has worked more than three years to get to this stage. With grants from the Sears Foundation, Hillsborough County government and some serious development assistance from ABC’s Ty Pennington and the crew from Extreme Home Makeover, the project is nearly complete.

The Lamarr Avenue Historic Church is a 10,000-square-foot historic property which will have an open community room, separate rooms for art, cooking, computers, business education, offices and a conference room. Local businesses, including the Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, MIT Computers and the Columbia Restaurant Group are sponsoring the various rooms. And Richard Gonzmart of the Columbia Restaurant Group is donating a commercial kitchen to the facility, which is near the group’s new Ulele Restaurant.
